Since 1815, when Buhei Handa X of the Handa family opened a tea garden in Sayama (now Iruma City, Saitama Prefecture), our family has been dedicated to crafting Japanese tea for over 200 years.

In 1928, we were commissioned by the Imperial Household Agency to manage the tea garden within the Akasaka Detached Palace and humbly prepared a special sencha called Hō-en for the Japanese Imperial Family.

Today, the Japanese tea industry is undergoing a major transformation.
While matcha enjoys global popularity, tea farms across Japan face challenges such as the aging of producers and the impact of climate change.
In Japan, bottled tea has become the norm, and fewer people brew loose-leaf tea at home.

Yet we remain committed to passing down the culture our ancestors nurtured for two centuries — to share the true beauty and taste of authentic Japanese tea with the world.
With that mission, we began expanding our activities overseas.

Products & Quality

As a specialty Japanese tea store based in Tokyo, we offer more than 50 varieties of tea — including sencha, hōjicha, genmaicha, wakōcha (Japanese black tea), and matcha — sourced from renowned regions such as Kagoshima, Shizuoka, Yame, and Uji.

Quality is everything to us.
That’s why we personally visit tea farms across Japan, build relationships with producers, and complete the final finishing process at our partnered factory in Ujitawara, Kyoto.
We take pride in delivering Japanese teas that are traceable, trustworthy, and full of character.

Here you can enjoy our handcrafted Uji Matcha Soft Serve and Hōjicha Soft Serve, made in-house using premium Japanese teas. During winter, we also offer Uji Matcha Latte and roasted sweet potatoes delivered directly from local farms in Japan.
